Habtamu Erymel, (-1017, ?) was a brick maker in Engaruka.
Habtamu believed in Ancient Egyptian religion.
He lived a life of absolute poverty. Eating or sleeping in a safe place was a constant struggle. He was considered as belonging to the lowest caste. However, he made some friends among it. People saw Habtamu as cultivated, eager to read and learn when possible, and mastering writing, which he did for friends. He was force of nature, and people saw in their body and beauty the incarnation of a god. He was soft-spirited, rejecting any responsability.
Habtamu, 37 years old, brick maker, became the new leader of the family.
