Pebatjma Religious, (-2381, -2294) was a salt miner in Engaruka.
Pebatjma believed in Shamanism.
She lived a life of absolute poverty. Eating or sleeping in a safe place was a constant struggle. She was considered as belonging to the lowest caste. However, she made some friends among it. She had only a basic knowledge that summed up to a few oral stories from childhood. She was vigorous, muscular, and had a near perfect body. She was considered spiritless, and unable to make a decision.
Pebatjma, 77 years old, salt miner, became the new leader of the family.
At the age of 87, Pebatjma decided to settle somewhere else. She packed a few possessions and departed for a new place. She got sick during the travel, and barely recovered. The family settled in Engaruka. On the first day of the month after, Pebatjma created a tradition of an annual family meeting. A few weeks later, Pebatjma began a collection.
