Butemwe Leviell, (1662, 1728) was a circus artist in Katsina-Ala.
Butemwe believed in Animism.
She lived a life of poverty. She was able to eat and sleep under a shelter, but ended with having no possession at all. She belonged to the low caste of the society, and had some friends among the servants, beggars and workers. She had only a basic knowledge that summed up to a few oral stories from childhood. She was physically powerful, with a perfect body in a perfect health.She was known to be lazy, barely waking up in the morning.
Butemwe, 36 years old, circus artist, became the new leader of a new branch of the family.
Aged 51, Butemwe looked for a child to adopt. Butemwe found a very small boy named Buneb left alone. Buneb became part of the family from now on. A few days later, Butemwe mortified herself for her sins. The same day, Butemwe felt lonely.
In the year 1728, Butemwe did commit suicide by drowning herself. However, the suicide attempt failed. Butemwe came back weaker from this experience. On the first day of the month after, Butemwe bought some farm animals. The same day, Butemwe fell in love with Kyela, an average looking man, 36 years old, a brick maker. Both married and lived together from now on.
Butemwe died in her bed, with all her friends by her side.
